U.S. Ambassador Cesar Cabrera Presents Credentials to the President of the Republic of Seychelles November 21, 2006 The newly-appointed U.S. Ambassador to Seychelles and Mauritius, with residence in Mauritius, Cesar Cabrera, arrived in Victoria on Monday, November 20, 2006. Ambassador Cabrera presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. James Michel, on November 21, 2006.
Ambassador Cabrera was nominated by President George W. Bush on June 6, 2006, and confirmed by the Senate on September 13, 2006. He was sworn in as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of Seychelles by Under Secretary Nicholas Burns on October 2, 2006.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) Projects in Praslin, Seychelles October 11, 2006 The U.S. Embassy in Port Louis and the United States Navy Seabees from the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) organized a groundbreaking ceremony for two CJTF-HOA projects identified for Praslin. The U.S. Navy has worked with the Ministry of Health in Seychelles to identify these projects which are the construction of a new mortuary at Baie St. Anne Hospital and renovation of the medical clinic at Anse La Blague. Officials from the Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the U.S. Embassy Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., Stephen Schwartz, and CJTF-HOA representatives were present at the ceremony.

Food Donation to Orphanages in Seychelles June 28, 2006 The Embassy Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., Stephen Schwartz, on behalf of the U.S. Government, donated 1910 kgs of food and provisions to the Foyer de La Providence and other orphanages on the island of Mahe, in Seychelles. The donation ceremony took place at the Foyer de La Providence in presence of a representative of the U.S. Navy. The goods were made available by the U.S. Navy which had purchased the foodstuffs to provision a vessel that subsequently cancelled its port visit to Seychelles.

Paper Show on the United States' Response to the 2004 Tsunami Disaster March 22 - 26, 2006 The U.S. Embassy in Port Louis offered the National Library in Victoria a paper show entitled "Americans Respond to the Tsunami Disaster.” The exhibition comprised 14 panels highlighting the different ways in which the United States engaged its soldiers to perform humanitarian relief work in regions most affected by the Tsunami in 2004. The exhibition was launched on March 22, 2006 at the National Library in Victoria and remained opened until March 26.
The exhibition was opened by Melissa Brown, the Economic/Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Port Louis. Members of the National Assembly and government officials were among the guests present at the launch of the exhibition.

Workshop Led by Eduardo Cue, U.S. Department of State Speaker from ARS (Africa Regional Services) Paris March 17, 2006The U.S. Embassy in Port Louis organized a one-day workshop for members of the Seychelles media on "Election Reporting" and "Journalism Ethics" led by Eduardo Cue, Paris-based U.S. News and World Report correspondent. The workshop was held at the International Conference Center.

Visit of U.S. Warship USS Roosevelt March 9, 2006 On Thursday, March, 9, 2006, the Commander of the U.S. destroyer USS Roosevelt DDG-80, Richard L. Clemmons, hosted a reception for Seychelles government officials, civil leaders, and diplomats. Vice President Joseph Belmont and Stephen Schwartz, the Charge d’Affaires, a.i. of the U.S. Embassy in Port Louis, addressed the guests at the reception. Among those present at the reception were Seychelles Foreign Minister Patrick Pillay, Leader of the Opposition, Wavel Ramkalawan, members of the National Assembly, officers from the Seychelles People Defence Force, and Seychelles Coast Guard.

U.S. Sailors Complete Renovation Work on Orphanages January 18, 2006A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Foyer de Nazareth Orphanage, at Anse Etoile, to mark the completion of renovation work at the Foyer de Nazareth Orphanage and at the St. Elizabeth's Convent in Victoria by a group of sailors of the U.S. Navy. The renovation project was undertaken in different phases in 2005 by sailors from Naval Mobile Construction Batalion (NMCB) 3 detachment based in Bahrain, known as Seabees. Guests who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony included the Bishop of the Seychelles Catholic Church, Denis Wiehe, the spouse of the Vice-President of Seychelles, Mrs. Christiane Belmont, the Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Port Louis, Victoria DeLong, and Timothy Bray, Chief Steelworker of the U.S. Navy.
