U.S. Government Project in Coordination with the Department of Defense on the Island of Mahe

The Government of the United States, in coordination with the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), and the Government of the Seychelles has collaborated on several civic action projects on the islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. The projects highlight the strong partnership that exists between the peoples of the United States and the Seychelles, and is part of the ongoing U.S. commitment to assist Seychellois and improve infrastructure in the Seychelles. To continue the cooperation with the Government of the Seychelles and the Seychellois people, CJTF-HOA has, with the Ministry of Health and Social Development, renovated the Sewing Center Workshop at the Rehabilitation Center at the northeast point on Mahe. The project, which began in June 2007, was completed at the end of October, and is being dedicated on November 13th at 0930. Specific renovations include:
Replaced existing doors
Removed and replaced existing windows with pane windows and shutters
Added air conditioning units
Restored electricity to all fixtures and rewired
Removed existing floor tile and re-tiled all rooms and hallway
Replaced roof and ensured free of leaks
Replaced drop ceiling
Replaced kitchen cabinetry and sink
Restored water to the bathroom and replaced plumbing fixtures
Built shelving units, cabinets, and work stations in all workshop rooms
Built one wheelchair accessible workstation per workshop room
Removed and replaced existing fence
Painted interior and exterior surfaces
Constructed and paved a wheelchair accessible ramp to the building
Installed a fence along the roadway
The Rehabilitation Center serves the entire nation of Seychelles and currently provides services for over 200 children. Renovation of the center was funded by the CJTF-HOA and planned and coordinated with the U.S. Government. It was contracted to and renovated by Allied Builders (Seychelles) Limited. The project took approximately three months to complete.
