U.S. Government Construction Project
in Coordination with the Department of Defense
on the Island of Mahe

The Government of the United States, led by the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), and the Government of the Seychelles has collaborated on several civic action projects on the islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. The projects highlight the strong partnership that exists between the people of the United States and the Seychelles, and is part of the ongoing U.S. commitment to assist Seychellois and improve infrastructure in the Seychelles. To continue the cooperation with the Government of the Seychelles and the Seychellois people, CJTF-HOA has, with the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs, identified a renovation project for the Rehabilitation Center (Sewing Center Workshop) at the northeast point on Mahe. The project, which is scheduled to begin on or about 25 June 2007, and will include the following:
Replace existing doors
Remove and replace existing windows with pane windows and shutters
Add air conditioning units
Rewire and restore electricity to all fixtures
Remove existing floor tile and re-tile all rooms and hallway
Replace roof and ensure that it is free of leaks
Replace drop ceiling
Replace kitchen cabinetry and sink
Restore water to the bathroom and replace plumbing fixtures
Build shelving units, cabinets, and work stations in all workshop rooms
Build one wheelchair accessible workstation in each workshop room
Remove and replace existing fence
Paint interior and exterior
Construct and pave a wheelchair accessible ramp to the building
The Rehabilitation Center serves the entire nation of Seychelles and currently provides services for over 200 children.
The contract to renovate of the center, which is funded and coordinated by the CJTF-HOA on behalf of the U.S. Government, was awarded to Allied Builders (Seychelles) Limited. The project is scheduled to take approximately 3 months, and there will be no adverse impact to the availability of the center.
