Release of the U.S. Department of State’s 2006 Annual Report on Human Rights Practices

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor released the 2006 Annual Report on Human Rights Practices on Tuesday, March 6, 2007.  Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice delivered opening remarks on the release of the report.

“These congressionally mandated annual reports speak to America’s continued support for those fundamental freedoms embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights…With the release of this year’s reports we are recommitting ourselves to help new democracies deliver on their people’s aspirations for a better life…We hope that these reports will be a source of information for governments and societies everywhere and a source of inspiration for all who are still working for peaceful democratic change around the globe,” Secretary Rice said. 

The Human Rights Report stated that the “The government of the Seychelles generally respected the human rights of its citizens.” The report is a public document available online at: www.state.gov/g/drl
