March 31, 2008

During a visit to Seychelles, Ambassador Cesar B. Cabrera paid a courtesy call on Vice President Joseph Belmont at State House.  Ambassador Cabrera was accompanied by the Director of the State Department’s Office of East African Affairs, James Knight, and some officers of the U.S. Embassy.  The East African Affairs Office provides political and economical policy support and liaison for Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda.  The delegation met with officials of the Government of Seychelles.

The visit of the delegation led by Ambassador Cabrera coincided with the U.S. Ambassador’s Self Help Program Ceremony and Democracy and Human Rights Fund, on April 1, 2008, to award grants to six Seychellois community groups.  The delegation also visited some projects funded under the U.S. Ambassador’s Self Help Program.
